Atlas Immersion Academy is run by Dory & Jarod Hobbs, who both own and founded the school in late 2010. Together, and with a terrific community of early childhood educators, they have grown the small start-up school to include both a medium-sized Certified Childcare Center (Gabriel Park) and two Certified Family child care homes (Hawthorne). Just this Fall (2017), they opened a Spanish immersion medium-sized Certified Center in West Linn, OR.   They speak French in the home with their three sons and one daughter, and have adored seeing other kids learn French and Spanish in the multi-cultural environment of Atlas alongside their own children.

Dory is the Creative Director for all Atlas locations, in addition to providing supporting roles in many other areas of operations. She holds both Bachelors & Masters Degrees in French, as well as a Step 10 on the Oregon Registry of Professional Development in Early Childhood.
Jarod does a little of everything at Atlas, including construction (he’s also a licensed contractor), handyman tasks, business management, HR specialist, and toddler hugger! He holds a Bachelor’s in French and International Studies, and worked professionally in the insurance and international education fields prior to transitioning full-time to Atlas in 2014.
Multi-Site Director- Carole Bunce
Carole Bunce  has worked at Atlas since 2014 in the roles of Toddler Teacher, Infant-Toddler Supervisor, as well as Director of the Gabriel Park Center.  Carole wears many hats throughout the day, and you are likely to find her at any of our locations observing students,  guiding admin and teachers, or holding the newest infant arrival.  A native of France, Carole has been a natural fit for our French immersion centers. In addition to adoring children and working hard to stay abreast of the latest research in best practices (NAEYC national conference attendee in 2015 & 2016, OAEYC conference attendance in 2016), Carole holds her CDA in Infant/Toddler development.  Her educational background in France includes a four-year degree in Marketing and Management, as well as credentials in theater marketing.  She is a woman of many talents, and Atlas is very fortunate to have her on board!
Outside of Atlas, Carole enjoys spending time with her husband, Chris, and they can be found hiking one of the Northwest’s many trails.  She is also a DIY fan and loves to craft!
Gabriel Park Director – Sydney Brehm
Sydney has loved working at Atlas as an assistant, teacher, and now director. Atlas has allowed her to combine two of her passions: childcare and foreign language. Sydney attended elementary school in France for five years. Upon returning to the United States, she studied in a French Immersion school until 7th grade. Sydney earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She has also earned a certificate geared towards teaching foreign languages to non-native speakers (TESL/TEFL).
Sydney moved to Portland just over a year ago and has loved exploring the city’s culture. When she is not at work she is probably hiking, eating, or reading.
Hawthorne Campuses Lead Provider- Gabrielle Payne
Gabrielle Payne has been a face at Atlas for the past two and a half years, of which most of this time has been spent in our Hawthorne neighborhood schools.  In addition to working on her Masters in Early Childhood Development, she works full-time at Atlas Hawthorne as both the Lead Koalas teacher (toddlers) and our Administrative Lead for both Atlas Hawthorne Les Petits & Les Grands! Gabrielle loves the outdoors, gardening, and enjoys camping with her partner, Duncan!  She loves the toddler years in early childhood, and greets our east side families with a warm smile and joyful heart every day!

West Linn Director- Tia Linneman
Tia joined the Atlas team this Fall as the exciting new West Linn Spanish immersion center took shape!  Tia comes with a wealth of knowledge in the early childhood field, from both her education and her previous jobs in the Head Start arena and Volunteers of America toddler program.  She holds a Step 10 on the Oregon Professional Registry, and enjoys providing training to her colleagues in the ECE field when she is able.  She is a lover of toddlers, and a lover of coaching and mentoring teachers in ECE!  She is thrilled to bring her passion to her West Linn community!  Outside of ECE, she is an avid Oregon Ducks fan, Trail Blazers fan, and enjoys tinkering around her house with her husband, Kyle.
